Electroacoustic Aspects of Plant and Man

Modernautställningen 2018:
With The Future Behind Us, Stockholm

Moderna Museet 2019:
Sensing Nature from Within, Malmö

Electroacoustic Aspects of Plant and Man oscillates between science, music and the quest of bridging the language barrier between plants and humans. The installation incorporates painting, sculpture, video and acoustic experiments with living house plants. Research in plant communication suggests that plants reacts and respond to acoustic stimuli. In some cases the plants even produce clicking sounds with their root tips. The video Plant-Man-Electro shows experiments with Kirlian photography and a tesla coil connecting the artist with stinging nettles in an electric loop. It evokes physicist Nikola Tesla’s (1856-1943) ideas regarding electricity, energy and thought transfer. A circuit of sculptures, with parts of conductive aluminum, forms the shape of sound and electricity’s wave movements. Together with drawings and graphical scores on canvas the installation points towards the possibility of using art as a tool for developing our perceptions, paying particular attention to the interaction with multiple forms of non-human intelligence surrounding us.
